Description
Indeed, running away is often the only option in the face of intense social pressure that makes it extremely difficult to defy tradition. At the Beth-Elpia shelter, young women are provided with safe accommodation and can move towards a future of independence through educational and vocational training.
Objectives
-
Socio-economic empowerment through education, practical training and skills development.
-
Community awareness-raising, with a view to contributing to the sustainable eradication of female genital mutilation.
-
A welcoming atmosphere characterised by love, kindness and respect, free from all forms of violence.
Activities
These agricultural activities enable the household to meet some of its basic needs by strengthening our financial independence, whilst providing a practical learning environment for the girls, equipping them with skills that will serve them well in the future.
Results
The installation of this machine enables the household to husk its own rice crop and generate income, whilst serving the local village community. It also promotes local development, in particular by creating jobs for a number of local young people.
